چکیده
The treatment of 14 patients in severe shock accompanying myocardial infarction with i-norepinephrine (Levophed) in some cases and phenylephline (Neo-Synephrine) in others (lemonstratecl a significantly higher recovery rate with l-norepinephrine. Twelve of the patients were in congestive heart failure. Using strain-gage technics in fully conscious, trained dogs, l-norepinephrine was shown to produce substantial increments in heart contractile force in addition to its recognizedl plessor effects. Approximately equipressor (loses of Neo-Synephrine under the same conditions had little effect on contractile force. These pronounced differences in heart force effects

متن کاملEffects of Norepinephrine on the Coronary Circulation in Man.
T HE sympathomimetic amine l-norepinephrine is extensively used in the treatment of hypotensive states, and is considered by many to be the pressor agent of choice.1-3 Shock associated with myocardial infarction is one of the more important of these hypotensive states.4-8 Therefore, it seemed relevant to examine the effects of infusion of this agent upon the coronary circulation in the human su...
متن کاملEphedrine increases ventricular arrhythmias in conscious dogs after myocardial infarction.
OBJECTIVES This study examined the hypothesis that the sympathomimetic activity of ephedrine increases the risk of lethal arrhythmias. BACKGROUND The sympathomimetic amine, ephedrine, is used to augment physical performance and as a weight loss aid, but little is known about the cardiovascular consequences in individuals with ischemic heart disease. METHODS Fifteen dogs at low risk for vent...
متن کاملKhat: pharmacological and medical aspects and its social use in Yemen.
Fresh leaves of the khat tree (Catha edulis Forsk.) are chewed for their euphoric properties in East Africa and parts of the Middle East, such as The Yemen. This review describes the history, cultivation and constituents of khat, and the social aspects of khat chewing in Yemen. The major pharmacologically active constituent of the fresh leaves is (--)-S-cathinone. The pharmacology of (--)-S-cat...
متن کاملIneffectiveness of nitroglycerin as an antiadrenergic agent on the cat heart.
The possibility that nitroglycerin modifies the metabolic effects of the sympathominietic amines wits tested in cats. Changes in the heart rate, blood pressure, height of the electrocardiographic T-wave and myoctirdial oxygen consumption following the injection of epinephrine or 1-arterenol were compared with changes in these indices after nitroglycerin was given with these sympathomimetic amin...
